The following was attached to the minutes of a funeral service for W. B. Ray G. Walker held in Whiting Lodge 613, F. & A. M. on Monday, May 7, 1928. The service was attended by 77 members and Masonic visitors as well as numerous family and friends. IN MEMORY Whereas, the Divine Ruler of the Universe in His inscrutable Wisdom has seen fit to take from us to that Celestial Lodge above, our beloved Brother Ray G. Walker. And, whereas for many years he faithfully served this Lodge and no history of Masonry in Whiting would be complete without a record of this Brother's life and devotion. Be it hereby resolved, that a record of Brother Ray G. Walker' services be written and placed on file in the archives of the Lodge and that a copy be sent to his bereaved family and to the Masonic News. Ray G. Walker was born in Wanatah, Indiana, September 11th, 1880 and came to Whiting in 1899. He was initiated into Whiting Lodge October 2, 1901; passed, October 16th and raised October 23rd, at the age of twenty one. He was appointed Steward in 1902, and elected Secretary for the year of 1903. He was appointed Senior Deacon in 1907 and 1908, elected to the Senior Warden in 1909 and Worshipful Master In 1910. In all these offices he served the Lodge capably and well. He was again elected Secretary December, 1914 and served in that capacity until his death. During all these years, he endeared himself to each Brother by his helpful service, ready humor, sympathy and understanding. He rejoiced with each Brother in his joys and sorrowed with him in his time of bereavement and sadness. His counsel was ever timely and good and during his period as Secretary no Master or Brother was not aided and guided by his advice and experience. His records of the Lodge were always accurate and complete and repeatedly received the commendation of the Grand Lodge of Indiana. His work was not done, yet his column is broken. His death was untimely, and his Brethren mourn. But while we say that his death was untimely, we reflect on that Supreme Life on this Earth, that lasting only thirty three years, changed the whole world and lives forever. We shall always cherish his memory, and his example and life shall be a glorious influence in the whole future of this Lodge. Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted before the world. |
